Learn about your own needs, explore boundary issues, and develop sustainable self-care practices. “Compassion Fatigue” is an on-going issue form professionals in the ‘helping’ field. Consistent exposure to others’ wounds (physical, emotional and energetic) requires a daily practice of renewal. through didactic learning as well as research-supported “spirit lifting’ activities, such as hands-on time with horses and creative, experiential exercises, participants will increase their ability to balance life & work. No horse experience necessary.

Shannon Knapp MA, Equine Specialist, EAGALA Advanced Certified, Parelli Level 2. She is an EAGALA Advanced practitioner who has been teaching horses and humans for over 25 years. Shannon is founder and president of Horse Sense of the Carolinas, located 25 minutes outside of Asheville, NC, and an internationally recognized leader in the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Learning & Wellness since 2003. She is also a Parelli Natural Horsemanship Level 3 student and is a avid meditator, labyrinth-walker, mindfulness and yoga student. In addition, Shannon is a Graduate Advisor for Prescott College’s Equine Assisted Learning Masters in Education degree program and speaks regularly at conferences, workshops and other events all over the world. She has trained in Mindfulness-Based Stressed Reduction (MBSR), as taught by Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli at the Center for Mindfulness.

Margie Allizon, MA, LCSW-P, Equine-Assisted Psychotherapist, EAGALA certified. Margie has lived in western NC for over 30 years and joined Horse Sense after completing her Masters degree in Social Work at Western Carolina University. Certified as an Equine Specialist through EAGALA in 2007, Margie completed her internship at Horse Sense in 2009. She is a provisionally licensed Clinical social worker and Addiction Specialist. Additionally, Margie is certified in Emotional Freedom Technique(EFT) and Reiki energy work.
