Continuing Education Courses (CE)

The Asheville School of Massage & Yoga is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork as a continuing education provider. Approved Provider # 450444-07. The following continuing education courses for massage therapists are offered at our massage school.

Registration Information:

You can register for a class at the bottom on each course listing through Pay Pal, please use the name you want on your certificate on the registration form. For more information or to register by phone, call the Asheville School of Massage & Yoga: (828) 252-7377. Full payment is due via credit card or check at the time of registration. *NOTE: Some teachers are from out of town, so classes are cancelled 2 weeks before the scheduled course date if there are not enough students. If you're interested in a class, don't wait to sign up. Cancellations: If we need to cancel a course, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel 2 weeks or more before the class, a full refund will be given minus a $25 administrative fee to cover the costs of processing the registration and issuing the cancellation. Cancellations of less than two weeks no refund will be given. Cancellation for On-line Ethics course: You have 2 weeks from date of purchase to receive a full refund, after that time, no refund will be given.

Unless otherwise noted on course listings:

  • Workshops at our massage school are usually 3, 7, 14, or 21 contact hours. The cost of course are listed in individual course descriptions.
  • Class times for course vary. Check individual course listing for date and time.
  • For all bodywork classes, please bring one set of twin sheets per day plus massage oil or cream (in a spill-proof container).
  • Tables are provided by the school.
  • There will be a 1-hour lunch break on all 7-8 hour class days; bring a bag lunch or come prepared to buy lunch at one of the restaurants close-by.

    This workshop covers health and well-being through the vitalization of the marma points of the body. Techniques include: yoga for marma points and the following Ayurvedic bodywork sessions- self-massage for marma points, Shiro-Abhyanga-Nasya, which is a nourishing bodywork treatment for the head, neck, arms, and feet, as well as an abdominal treatment for the toning the internal organs.

    ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Vishnu Dass started studying Ayurveda in 1992 under the guidance of Dr. Vasant Lad, world renowned Ayurvedic physician and teacher, and graduated from the Advanced Studies and Clinical Program at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuqueque, NM. He worked for the Panchakarma Department of the Institute while finishing his studies, and also graduated from the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics. He is a former Board Member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and is the owner of Blue Lotus Ayurveda in Asheville, NC.

  • Therapeutic Strategies for Effective Pain Relief

    We will review many of the problem areas in the body and create strategies to help relieve your client’s chronic pain. This class will teach you how to pinpoint problem areas quickly, enabling your client to leave pain free. Our main focus is on the classic problem areas of the body: the head and neck, the low back and sacrum, and the shoulders. We will use orthopedic assessment, connective tissue techniques, passive/active stretching, muscle energy techniques, hydrotherapy, cross fiber friction, and self-care strategies to help clients become pain free.

    ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Pete Whitridge is a licensed massage therapist in Florida and an approved provider for the NCBTMB. He is the former Education Director at the Florida School of Massage in Gainesville. He teaches “Myofascial Components of Pain” workshops throughout the Southeast, as well as business building classes. His training as an EMT, a CPR instructor, and 35 years of teaching experience have given him many insights into the learning process. Pete incorporates visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learning aides to provide students with a well-rounded class.

    Course Description: This class is designed to fulfill 3 hours of continuing education in ethics requirement for NCBTMB Standard V and North Carolina massage and bodywork licensing. Referencing North Carolina as well as the NCBTMB code of ethics, participants will learn the basics of client- practitioner dynamics and why professional boundaries are so important to protect both our clients and ourselves

    Learning Objectives:

    Participants will learn how to create safe relationships by exploring the following topics:

    ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Pripo Teplitsky, MA, LPC, offers a diverse practice that balances the connection between mind, body and spirit. He has taught CE courses for 15 years including over 350 ethics courses. He lived, studied and worked at the Esalen Institute, a renowned human potential learning center in Big Sur, CA. He is a certified Esalen massage practitioner. He also earned a master’s degree in psychology & counseling (included graduate coursework in human sexuality, sexual identity, sex therapy) and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina. Pripo has a private counseling practice in Asheville, NC specializing in relationship issues. His main goal is to help support people to live in their truth and authenticity.
