The Body’s Intrinsic Intelligence – movement studies for therapeutic application, understanding and self-care
Date: September 5, 2014 (9am - 5pm )
CE Hours: 6 Cost: $110.00
Instructor: Karola Lüttringhaus, LMBT
This course is an Introduction to ‘BII - The Body’s Intrinsic Intelligence’: Movement explorations, techniques & principles for whole-bodied creative and natural movements.
We explore and experience the intrinsic intelligence of the body, working in tandem with the beautifully designed parameters and guidelines of the human body in motion.
Looking at human anatomy, physiology and bio-mechanics, this methodology is based on how our skeleton and soft tissues collaborate in order to facilitate human movement and how we can preserve these structures for lifelong freedom of movement. The articular language is chronological, fluid and efficient, which is achieved by finding organic ways to generate kinetic energy and maintaining and channeling this energy through the body’s natural pathways while establishing the greatest structural support value in the participating structures.
This comprehensive workshop/lab is broken down into theory, discussion and movement application elements. The workshop provides helpful information and exercises we can use with our clients, covers requirements in anatomy/kinesiology as well as self-care. The course covers basic theory observed on skeletal models and through gentle movement explorations. Topics explored include: oscillations, ROM, individualities and commonalities among moving bodies/structures, joint actions, passive and active motion, 3-dimensional movement, helical principles, touch and signal transmission, arches of the body, walking mechanisms, launching and landing areas, safely and efficiently entering and exiting the floor and more.
This introductory workshop/class is an open lab and welcomes discussions about the principles and ideas presented. Participants should be prepared to move, write, draw, and to challenge their preconceived notions on the purpose of movement and common exercise regimens. Wear comfortable layers of clothing that allow you to adjust to various emperature and activity levels throughout the day. The atmosphere is non-judgmental and fun.
Karola Lüttringhaus was born and grew up in Berlin, Germany, where she founded ALBAN ELVED DANCE COMPANY in 1997 to form an outlet for my diverse artistic pursuits. For the past 17 years she has been the artistic director of ALBAN ELVED DANCE COMPANY, as well as working as a freelance choreographer, designer and teacher at theatres and universities across Europe and the US. Karola holds a BFA in Dance and Choreography from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and a MA/MFA in Scene and Costume Design and Scenography from the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany.
Karola’s work as a massage therapist has accompanied her entire career in dance, both sides merging more and more over time. She is an LMBT in NC and is currently enrolled to become a certified Axis Syllabus teacher. Axis Syllabus has reaffirmed her ideas and ultimately changed her approach to movement education profoundly. In her opinion, the Axis Syllabus is an unparalleled authority in the field of movement research. It is the inspiration to her workshops /classes and the source of hope for many issues related to human movement, injury prevention and rehabilitation, personally as well as professionally.
As a massage therapist, she firmly believe that movement and movement education is an essential and irreplaceable part in her work with her clients. For more information visit www.axissyllabus.org. or her websites: www.dynamic-body.org, movement-research.weebly.com, www.albanelved.com”
