Following the themes of “Finding Your Center”, “Grounding” and “Expansion” this weekend will provide a way to self care using Therapy Balls!

  • Understand and describe the benefits/limitations of a variety of types and sizes of Therapy Balls
  • Overview of 9 Ball Therapy
  • Perform safe and effective self massage techniques on the myofascial structures to areas of the body with Therapy Balls.
  • Perform a simple movement sequence to improve mobility and decrease tension in the area of the body where Therapy Balls are used.
  • Practice the following therapy ball techniques: sustained compression, skin-rolling/shear, stripping, crossfiber, pin and stretch, contract/relax, pin/spin and mobilize, ballplow, and ball stack.
  • Areas of focus: the trunk and spine; feet and lower legs; low back, hips and thighs; shoulder gridle and neck; arms and hands, jaw and face; and pelvic floor.

Balls will be provided for class. You can also purchase a set for at home use.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Libby Hinsley, PT, E-RYT 500, is the owner of Yoga Rx of Asheville, a private Physical Therapy practice integrating Yoga-based movement and Manual Therapy. She also works part time at Asheville Family Fitness & Physical Therapy treating patients with a wide variety of orthopedic complaints. She has specialized training in manual therapy, pelvic floor dysfunction and rehabilitation. She routinely incorporates patient education in self-massage techniques to enhance patient involvement and treatment outcomes. In addition to her work as a PT, she is Director and Lead Instructor of Asheville Yoga Center’s 300 hr Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training Program.
